Itinerary

Egypt Tours
Designed for families who want to visit Egypt with their children, this tour combines visits to the pyramids & sphinx, museums and Pharaonic tombs with some more adventurous activies including a camel trek and overnight felucca sailboat cruise. Our guides are specially selected for their skills with families & children, and group sizes are kept small to ensure you get as much as possible out of what we hope is a once in a lifetime holiday

Day 1: Arrive in Cairo - Transfer to hotel

We greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to settle into the hotel and relax after your journey.

Day 2: Cairo - Pyramids & Sphinx tour, camel ride

We start today's tour with a bang, with a visit to the immense Pyramids & Sphinx at Gisa. We also include a camel ride at the pyramids, fun for all the family, and a great photo opportunity as well.

Day 3: Cairo - City tour

We have some time to enjoy the hotel pool this morning before heading into Cairo and exploring the narrow alleyways of Coptic Cairo. We then head into the centre of town and visit the Egyptian Museum with its collection of mummies, and of course the familiar and famous Tutankhamun exhibit with the original golden mask on display.
In the evening we board the sleeper train for the overnight journey to Aswan.

Day 4: Aswan - Philae temple

After arriving in Aswan we check into our hotel right on the River Nile, which is at its most picturesque here in Aswan. We take a tour to the beautiful island temple of Philae by boat, and also during term time visit a local school where we arrange a fun and informal joint English/Arabic language class with children of a similar age to your group. A Nubian meal is also included today.

Day 5: Aswan - Start felucca cruise

There is the option very early this morning for a tour to the temples to Ramses II at Abu Simbel, which have a fascinating story as they were completely dismantled and rebuilt piece by piece to escape the rising waters of Lake Nasser. If you don't do Abu Simbel, the morning is free to explore Aswan's busy and exotic bazaar, or relax in the hotel before we board our felucca sailboat for a few hours sailing on the Nile. We have a fun night's sleep on the deck of the boat and are looked after well by our Nubian crew (toilets and showers are available on a support boat that will join up with us from time to time, and an option to upgrade to a luxury Nile cruise boat is also available).

Day 6: Felucca sailboat cruise

After breakfast, we enjoy some more sailing on the Nile today before driving to Luxor with a stop at the riverside temple at Komombo en-route. We reach Luxor in the afternoon and check into our hotel by the Nile.

Day 7: Luxor - West bank tour.

There is the option today of a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the west bank of the Nile. Our today also takes in the West bank, visiting the Pharaonic tombs on the West Bank of the Nile. We also visit the unique temple to Queen Hatchepsut and learn about her fascinating story.
The afternoon is free to relax in the hotel, explore Luxor town, take another felucca trip on the Nile to Banana island, or perhaps visit the Mummification museum.

Day 8: Luxor - Karnak temple

We tour one of Egypt's biggest and most impressive sites today, Karnak temple, with its huge temples, obelisks, statues and columned halls. In the evening we transfer to the train station and catch the overnight sleeper train back to Cairo. An upgrade to an internal flight is available if you would like to fly home on Sunday to keep the tour to a week's duration.

Day 9: Cairo - City tour

After arriving in Cairo we have a short tour today to explore the mosque and museum at the Citadel, overlooking the city, and to wander around and possibly do some haggling and souvenir shopping in the busy Khan-el-Khalili bazaar. In the evening we include a dinner cruise on the River Nile as a farewell meal, enjoying a belly dancing and sufi dancing display as we float down the river.
You can fly home today to make the tour fit into a half-term week if you wish.

Day 10: Cairo - Tour ends

The tour ends today and your time is free until we transfer you to airport for your flight home.

Tour description

Egypt Tours Starting in Cairo, we visit the majestic pyramids and sphinx at Gisa and learn how Papyrus scrolls and paints are made. We also enjoy a fun camel ride at the pyramids. Our next tour spends time in the Egyptian Museum with its famous Tutankhamun exhibition and mummy room, and Coptic Cairo with its ancient churches and narrow streets.
Leaving Cairo, we take the overnight sleeper train to Aswan where we visit the beautiful island Philae Temple by boat, before visiting a local school and enjoying a traditional meal in a nearby Nubian village or restaurant.

Egypt Tours During school term times we include a mixed English/Arabic language lesson at the school with the children on our tour and local Egyptian school children.
We also have some free time in Aswan to explore the markets, walk along the Nile, or relax by the child-friendly pool in our 5-star hotel.
The following morning we have some free time with an option to visit the temples to Ramses II at Abu Simbel. These spectacular temples were painstakingly dismantled and rebuilt when the Aswan Dam was built and the lake flooded and are many peoples' highlight of a tour of Egypt's historic sites.

Egypt ToursNext we board a traditional felucca sailboat for an overnight cruise, heading downriver on the Nile from Aswan towards Luxor.
Watching rural Egyptian life pass by on the riverbanks as you relax on board a felucca is one of Egypt's most enjoyable activities.
Our Nubian crew cook all our meals and entertain us in the evening as we sit around a campfire singing songs and telling stories before we sleep on board the boat. Life-jackets for adults & children, mosquito nets, and a support vessel with toilets and shower are provided.

The next morning we sail a little further on the Nile before driving to Luxor.
A luxury Nile cruise upgrade option is available for those who would like some more comfort instead of the felucca. You sail all the way to Luxor and see all the same sites plus Edfu temple.

Egypt Tours In Luxor, the 'world's largest outdoor museum', we have selected a range of the most important and interesting sites that the children in the group will enjoy but not find over-tiring. These include the Pharaohs' tombs in the Valleys of the Kings and Queen Hatchepsut's temple on the West Bank of the Nile, while on the East Bank, we explore the huge temple complex at Karnak.

Finally, we return to Cairo on the sleeper train and visit the Citadel high on a hill overlooking the city, and explore the chaotic Khan-el-Khalili bazaar before enjoying a final taste of Egypt on a Nile dinner cruise with a sufi & belly dancing display.
The tour uses 4 and 5-star hotels with swimming pools ,and options are available to upgrade the felucca to a luxury cruise, visit Abu Simbel, enjoy a hot air balloon flight, or extend the tour with extra days in Cairo.

Egypt ToursOur small-group departures start on Saturdays, and during half-term holidays the tour is designed to be easily shortened by a day so you can fly home on Sunday if necessary to allow the children to start school again on Monday. Private departures just for your family (or families) are also available on other dates. Our Egyptian Family Adventure is a longer 13-day version of this tour and runs alongside this itinerary for the first 8 days, but then heads from Luxor to the Red Sea for some snorkelling and relaxation before returning to Cairo.

In the evening you step aboard a luxury Nile steamer for a dinner to remember and a chance to see Cairo by night. You will enjoy the unique taste Middle Eastern cuisine and experience traditional Egyptian Sufi and Belly Dancing as you float down the river.

Finally we take you on a day trip to Alexandria, site of the Pharos lighthouse, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Here you can explore the many Roman remains, including a wonderful amphitheatre and catacombs.

Your last day in Cairo is free giving you a chance to buy one or two more souvenirs or do some more sightseeing before we transfer you back to the airport for you flight home.

Otional extras

Listed below is a selection of optional extras that can be added to your tour. Just select which options you want to add to your booking when you reserve your tour, or alternatively just let us know and we'll add them to your booking. Further options are also available when you get to Egypt (such as Sound & Light shows, dinner cruises, scuba-diving courses).

Child Discount (Age 6-13)

This discount option can be applied for all children aged from 6 to 13 at the date of travel. Please contact us if you would like advice about rooming arrangements for your family.

Single Room Supplement

If you have any single travellers in your party, then if you want to guarantee them a single room, then you can add this single supplement option to cover all the hotels used in the tour. Triple rooms or extra beds are available for children to share their parents room if required.
NOTE: If you have a family with 2 or more children aged 15 or under at the date of travel, then they will both receive their normal child discounts, but we will need to add one of these single supplements to your total tour price.

Abu Simbel Tour (overland)

The awesome temples at Abu Simbel are a must see for anyone travelling to Egypt. Lying 280 km south of Aswan these remarkable temples were dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone to escape the rising waters of lake Nasser, and stand as a testament to the greatness of the Pharaoh Ramses II, and to modern engineering. We travel in a private minibus/coach and join the early morning escorted convoy which departs Aswan at 04.30, returning by around midday (approx. 3 hours drive each way, with 2 hours at the temples, timed to be shortly after sunrise).

Early finish discount (9-day tour)

If you want to make this a 9-day tour, running from Saturday to Sunday, and fitting into your children's half-term holiday, then the tour itinerary is designed to allow this. You take the overnight sleeper train back to Cairo in the evening of Day 8 (Saturday), arriving in Cairo in the morning on Day 9 (Sunday). We will provide a day-use hotel room until we transfer you to the airport for an afternoon flight home. Alternatively, you can fly back from Luxor to Cairo in the evening on Day 8 (Saturday) and take any flight home on Day 9 (Sunday).
This discount option covers the cost of the short tour, dinner cruise and overnight hotel room that you will not use in Cairo on Day 9.

Hot Air Balloon Flight - Luxor

This spectacular flight runs early in the morning over the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor, so that you catch the sunrise over the Valleys of the Kings & Queens, temples and desert. Start times vary through the year, but the option is priced to use one of the very first flights in the morning that are timed to fit with the rising sun. You get around 1 hour in the air. We normally book the flight for the morning before your West Bank tour).
There is a minimum number of people required for the trips to run, and weather conditions are also an issue, so we can't guarantee that the trip will run everyday (they are rarely cancelled however). You can either book and pay for this option in advance to secure a sunrise flight, or arrange it when you get to Egypt when we can't guarantee this. Once booked and paid for, refunds are not available if you choose not to do the option while you are in Egypt, though of course if it is cancelled we will refund you in full.

Nile Cruise Upgrade

If you wish to take a luxury cruise instead of the basic felucca sailboat cruise, then we offer this option. You check on board a luxury 5-star cruise boat for 3 days and 3 nights on the Nile. During the day we make our way slowly downriver from Aswan to Luxor, relaxing in the sun and watching Egyptian life on the banks of the Nile drift by. In the evenings we dine on classical Egyptian and western food and listen to the distinctive sounds of traditional music in the sumptuous surroundings of the cruise boat. On our way we stop at Edfu Temple, a well-preserved complex dedicated to the God Horus; and also at Komombo, where there are the remains of a temple dedicated to the Gods Sobek and Haroeris (Komombo visit not included in tour price).
The final night of the cruise is spent moored in the centre of Luxor. All your meals are included. Twin cabins with an extra bed are available on the boat, which can take 2 adults and one child. Triple cabins are not generally available and a single supplement will be added if you need a single cabin.

Cairo to Aswan Flight Upgrade

Should you wish, you have the option of spending another night at your hotel in Cairo and taking the early morning flight to Aswan, instead of the sleeper train.
All transfers are included. Note: Flight prices quoted above are approximate and given only as a guide. Further information and exact prices will be given upon final confirmation of your booking.

Luxor to Cairo Flight Upgrade

Should you wish, you have the option of taking the evening flight from Luxor, instead of the sleeper train, and spending an extra night in Cairo .
All transfers are included. Note: Flight prices quoted above are approximate and given only as a guide. Further information and exact prices will be given upon final confirmation of your booking.
